Requesting an Ambulance or Community Transport

Patient who need to attend hospital occasionally require an ambulance to transport them to hospital. Arrangements can be made through the secretaries (telephone 0844 576 9010 options 3, 4 or 5).

As much time as possible is needed to arrange this transport (at least 2 full working days) and patients should inform the surgery as soon as their appointment is known. Ambulance control now has very strict criteria to determine which patients are eligible for transport. If they deny an ambulance (or car), the patient will need to make their own way to hospital.

Harlow Community Transport

This is a social car scheme for those with mobility difficulties due to:

  • Having restricted mobility
  • Having a temporary disability
  • Living in an area not served by public transport
  • Needing a friend to travel with you

The scheme can be used for transport to the doctor, dentist, optician, hospital as well as shopping and social functions.

To join, contact Harlow Community Transport, Aneurin Bevan Centre, Garden Terrace Road, Old Harlow, Essex CM17 0AT. (Telephone 446855). An annual fee is required for administration. There is a fixed fee for journeys of up to 5 miles. For journeys over 5 miles there is a mileage fee payable to the driver. Estimates for journeys outside the Harlow District border are available on request.
